Soularize 2018 with Bill Plotkin - Part 3
Starting this month, we’re going to share some videos from Soularize 2018. This series was produced with assistance from the technical staff at the Center for Action and Contemplation. There are eight videos showcasing teaching sessions with Bill Plotkin of the Animas Valley Institute and an additional video featuring a question-and-response conversation between Fr. Richard Rohr and Fr. Jim Clarke.
Session 3, Bill begins by challenging the men in attendance to think about “Why do you drum?” He urges them to go deeper, beyond the common reasons given and to get into touch with the meaning and experience drumming holds personally.
The second part of this session delves deeply into Bill Plotkin’s Eco-Soulcentric Developmental Wheel and how this model and perspective (more akin to nature-based cultures) can radically upend the perceptions of life coming through our consumer-conformist culture. Bill also fundamentally challenges opinions about the Men’s Rites of Passage and suggests that while this ritual is a great thing, it is neither sufficient nor necessary to move people through the developmental stages of life. He adds that we need to complete the tasks of each stage of life individually, and also to have representatives at all stages of life to help us see and know our progression.
